Blue Note Modern

Bolder type, warmer contrast, more presence than the quieter ECM lineage — built for club dates and touring acts who want the site to carry some of the same energy as the live set.

Design rationale

Blue Note Modern keeps jazz's serif-plus-grotesk backbone but pushes the display serif heavier and the accent color further — an oxblood `#5C1A1A` or brass at higher saturation than the ECM default, used across ticket links and pull-quotes rather than sparingly. Photography leans toward higher-contrast stage shots rather than strictly studio-still portraiture.

Section rhythm stays the same as every jazz build (asymmetric two-column, metadata right, content left, 96-160px vertical spacing between sections), because that liner-note-style layout is what makes the gig calendar and press section scannable — the style change is about tone, not structure.

Who this fits

Touring trios and quartets playing regular club dates rather than concert-hall bookings, where a slightly bolder visual identity helps the site double as a poster-adjacent promotional tool without abandoning the genre's press-kit credibility conventions.

Frequently asked questions

Does this style work for a trio?

Yes — it's built and priced the same as any jazz build; solo ($249) or band ($499) depends on whether you need multiple member bios.

Can I mix in color photography from live shows?

Yes — Blue Note Modern is built for higher-contrast stage photography specifically, more so than the quieter ECM Editorial style.

Is the gig calendar the same as other jazz styles?

Yes — the dense date/venue/city gig list is standard across all three jazz styles; only the visual skin changes.
