About

A dynamic voice in the next generation of Nordic jazz, bridging classical training, jazz education, and a bold personal artistic vision.

Born in Gothenburg in 2002, Helena Ström began her formal musical journey after graduating gymnasium in 2020. She studied Jazz Saxophone at the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen (2021–2023) under Hans Ulrik, then spent a year abroad through Nordplus at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (2023–2024) studying with Jukka Perko.

In 2024 she transferred to the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH) to fully pursue jazz saxophone performance, studying under Fredrik Ljungkvist and Jonas Knutsson. She is set to complete her bachelor's degree there in summer 2026.

Helena's path to the baritone saxophone began in the Bohuslän Ungdomsbigband, which she joined as a young player on cello and flute. When the orchestra launched a big band programme, she taught herself baritone, laying the groundwork for her deep love of the instrument. Since 2024 she has been a member of the Bohuslän Big Band, collaborating with artists including Magnus Lindgren, Ann-Sofi Söderqvist, and Joakim Milder.

She has performed with composers and bandleaders including Mike Holober, Vanessa Perica, Guillermo Klein, Laura Jurd, Anna Webber, and Jorge Rossy, and has appeared with the Norrbotten Big Band, Stockholm Jazz Orchestra, European Jazz Companions, and the 2024 Keep an Eye summer program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
